Moray Claims is a trading name of Grigor & Young LLP, Solicitors, Elgin and Forres, Moray. Check out what our clients – and others – have to say about the service we provide:
We had the best experience one could ever have with Grigor & Young and with Peter Brash in particular. He helped us with our claim enormously. We felt very looked after and supported and he was very dedicated and transparent and kept us in the loop every step of the way. If we were ever in a similar situation again (hopefully not) we would not hesitate to engage Peter again.

I was knocked off my bicycle at a roundabout on the A96 in Forres. I suffered a number of quite nasty soft tissue injuries. I knew immediately that I wanted to make a claim for compensation because the car driver’s actions were dangerous. I got a very satisfactory result through Grigor & Young. It was definitely worth it. The thing I liked best was the excellent communication – by email, post and phone. It was a friendly and efficient service and I felt I got good advice at all times. I would recommend G&Y’s personal injury claim services to others, for all of the above reasons. I would like to thank you for your handling of the claim in a very professional, efficient and friendly manner. I have appreciated your excellent communication and advice throughout. My case was run on a no win-no fee basis, with After the Event insurance taken out through G&Y. I received 100% of the agreed compensation, without any deductions.
AP, Forres (September 2019)
I was injured in a road traffic accident where I was a front seat passenger in the vehicle I was travelling in. We were turning right from a major road into a minor road. A vehicle coming along behind us was travelling too fast and ran into the back of us after we had commenced our turn. My main injury was a whiplash injury. I wasn’t sure if my injury was worth claiming for. I thought perhaps it was not severe enough. On consulting Grigor & Young, however, I found that my injury was a viable claim. My claim was concluded by negotiations and I settled for a sum beyond my expectations. I found Peter to be very professional, knowledgeable and efficient. I felt like it was a very “personal” service compared with the alternative we were offered by our insurance company. The service has the benefit of being local, accessible and professional. I would definitely recommend G&Y’s personal injury claim services to others – a fabulous service and friendly staff. I had “before the event” legal expenses insurance in place and G&Y were able to use that to cover their work. I received 100% of the agreed compensation and G&Y were paid by the third party insurers (i.e. not by my LEI insurers).

“I was injured when I tripped on a loose grating in a garage forecourt in Elgin. I suffered a bad cut to my hand. Before consulting a solicitor, I was concerned what making a claim would involve and how long it might take. I also had a fear of having to attend court if I made a claim. When I went ahead with a claim through Grigor & Young, I got reassurance that the claim would not be too time-consuming. I was always kept up to date with how the claim was progressing. Peter Brash was always available with help and guidance when contacted. I got great communication, clear advice, and a friendly and professional service. I would recommend G&Y’s personal injury claims service to others because of the great communication and it being an easy service to use. I received 100% of the compensation agreed with the garage’s insurance company, my claim having been run ‘no win-no fee’, using After the Event insurance. G&Y’s services didn’t cost me anything at all.”

“My child was injured at his nursery by a damaged piece of furniture. He suffered a nasty cut on the face. This needed stitched and it left a scar. I felt it was important to hold the nursery to account because I didn’t want it happening to another child. Peter Brash was a brilliant lawyer who explained all steps of the case and did an excellent job. The plastic surgery report we got was helpful in confirming that the scar should fade away completely over the next few of years. The claim settled by negotiation and without having to go to court. There were no deductions from the compensation – 100% of the agreed amount went to my child. G&Y ran the claim no win-no fee, using After the Event insurance they took out after I consulted them.”

“I had been getting a new kitchen installed through a nationwide home improvement store in Elgin, but there were problems with it. I went into the store to speak to one of the managers but no one was available at the time. As I was leaving the store, I tripped on the low end of a sun lounger which had been displayed at the end of an aisle. I fell and broke my kneecap. As an elderly person, though I made a good recovery, I didn’t make a full recovery, which was frustrating. First of all, I claimed directly against the store for my injuries. They denied liability and were insistent that the accident was entirely my own fault. They said I should been taking better care where I was putting my feet. At that point, I consulted Grigor & Young. Peter Brash got the store to disclose documents relating to my accident and that convinced him I had a good claim. Still the store would not accept responsibility – so we raised a personal injuries action at Elgin Sheriff Court. Liability was never admitted but we agreed an acceptable settlement of the claim, shortly before the court hearing with witnesses was due to take place. I was worried about having to go to court and was glad to avoid that experience. I received 100% of the agreed compensation, without deduction. It was no win-no fee. Peter always kept me regularly updated and responded quickly to any questions I had.”

“I was injured in a road traffic accident in Forres. I was driving on the main road when a car pulled out in front of me from a side road – right in front of me. I did an emergency stop but there was still a hefty collision and both vehicles were written off as a result. I was wearing my seatbelt but I still banged my head and suffered a whiplash injury. I feel I got a great service from Grigor & Young. I went to see a local orthopaedic surgeon for a medical report and my claim was settled with the third party insurers by negotiation. I received 100% of the agreed compensation, with no deductions. If I have any future problem involving a possible accident claim, I will definitely call Grigor & Young again.”

“I was driving on the A95, heading north towards Aberlour. I was suddenly confronted with an oncoming vehicle on my side of the road. I could only avoid a head-on collision by braking and swerving onto the verge. I managed to manoeuvre back onto the road beyond the oncoming vehicle but I had lost control and my car rolled several times. It came to rest the right way up, still on the roadway. I did not realise immediately that the injuries I had suffered included a broken collarbone and a broken wrist. The police and an ambulance attended. The third party was a foreign driver. Due to a mix-up between the police officers who attended the scene, they did not get the details of the other driver. Subsequently, when I was first considering whether I should make a personal injury claim for compensation, I was doubtful it would be possible to do so, given that the other driver was untraced and from outside the UK. When I got in touch with Peter at Grigor & Young, however, he explained that it should be possible me a claim through the Motor Insurers Bureau’s Untraced Drivers’ Agreement, if necessary. It turned out that, indeed, the third party could not be traced, so I did make a claim via the untraced drivers’ agreement. I liked the way I was kept informed at every stage. Peter gave me comprehensive help in filling out the MIB’s claim form. I did not have to pay anything for fees or outlays at any stage. It was possible to agree a level of compensation with the MIB and I received that amount in full, without any deductions for legal costs or anything else. Peter dealt with everything in a very professional way. I would recommend Grigor & Young’s personal injury claims services to others, based on my experience.
RH, Aberlour (December 2018)
“I was injured in two separate accidents at work – about three months apart – while working at a building site in Lossiemouth. The first time, I got a bad cut on my hand, which needed stitches and left a scar; the second time, I was operating machinery which overturned and I hurt my neck and back. To begin with, I was not sure if I even had a claim I could make or whether both incidents were “my fault”. Things did not improve immediately when I got legal advice from Grigor & Young because it turned out that the other party did not have employers’ liability insurance. In addition to that, the other party tried to make me feel guilty and claimed that I was fully to blame for each accident. I would like to say a massive thank you to Peter Brash. Without him, I don’t feel it would have been possible to claim successfully. I liked the fact that I was kept up-to-date at each step of the way and fully informed how things would proceed. Peter was more than capable and provided a friendly and honest service. I was glad when my claim was able to settle by agreement and I received 100% of my compensation, without deduction. I would recommend your personal injury claims services to others because it seemed that nothing was ever too much trouble for you to do for me.”
HA, Lhanbryde (June 2018)
“I was injured in a road traffic accident in Elgin. I was driving on Edgar Road in New Elgin and turning into Wards Road at its T-junction with Edgar Road. A taxi waiting at the junction pulled out, without warning, striking my vehicle on the driver’s door. I had whiplash injuries. I was quite unwell following the accident and the repercussions lasted for many months. It didn’t help that I had previously been injured in a car accident about 20 years ago. Having said that, at first, I did not think any claim would be worth sufficient value to make it worthwhile because, even before the accident, I was not working any more. I discussed it with my friends and they all said it was not worth claiming for. In the end, the biggest motivating factor for me getting legal advice was that I wanted justice and that even though it may not have been a significant amount of cash that was at stake. I kept seeing taxis from the firm that caused my injuries every time I was out and about, which was a constant reminder of the accident and my ongoing problems. All I had to do was go in to see Peter at Grigor & Young and give him details at a meeting, including photos I had taken at the scene of the accident. These showed the positions of the vehicles after the collision and the damage to them. There happened to be a police officer in a car in the queue behind the third party vehicle, which helped for witness evidence. I feel Grigor & Young made life easy for me, after that. I was kept informed throughout the claim and everything was clear and concise. Peter rang me up and “pushed me” to progress things when necessary – he kept me on the straight and narrow, as far as moving things on was concerned. Things did not run entirely smoothly, in the sense that we ended up having to raise an action in Elgin Sheriff Court. This was because, first of all, liability was denied. Then the insurers’ claims handlers made a poor offer in settlement of the claim. Then, to make matters worse, the third party insurers went bust. Peter reassured me and gave me the confidence to continue with the claim even after that happened. This is not the first personal injury claim I have had to make. My previous road accident ended up as compensation claim in the Court of Session, through other solicitors. I didn’t feel that I got any less level of service from Grigor & Young with this claim than I got in the previous – more serious – case. I would recommend anyone to go and see Peter Brash about a possible personal injury claim. I would like to thank Peter for all his hard work and for getting me a good outcome. The final settlement negotiated after court action was raised was almost exactly two-and-a-half times as much as the best offer I received before raising proceedings. I also received my compensation in full, with no deductions at all. G&Y ran the claim for me on a no win-no fee basis.
RS, Elgin (May 2018)
“I was injured in a road traffic accident in Moray. I was a front seat passenger in a car driven by my partner. It was a single vehicle accident. The car went off the road due to icy conditions. I had multiple injuries, including a fracture which required an operation to insert metal plates and pins. It took me a while to go ahead with making a claim. In the first place, it never occurred to me that I could claim. I had heard advertisements on the radio about “no win-no fee” claims but I think they just washed over me. Then, when a work colleague spoke to me about the fact I might be able to make a claim for compensation for my injuries, I was unsure whether it would work because the person I would be claiming against was my partner (i.e. “a relative”). I actually wondered whether my injuries were serious enough because my injuries were not obviously visible and I wondered whether it would be believed that I had suffered them in an accident. In any event, at least initially, I thought I would make a full recovery. The impact of the injury made every day things take longer and I did not have time to think about “extra” things like making a claim. Because I live with my partner, to some extent, I was playing down the extent of the injury because I didn’t want to make my partner feel more guilt than was already the case. I was not in paid work at the time of the accident, so I did not lose any wages – another thing which made me think I did not have any “losses” to claim back. I was worried that my partner would be in trouble if I made a claim or experience an increase in insurance premiums. I was also worried about the prospect of possibly having to go to court. The potential cost to me was a concern and whether any initial quote for costs might suddenly escalate as, once I had set off on this path of making a claim, everything would be “out of my control”. In fact, what I found was that, when I spoke to my partner, I was reassured that my partner would feel better if I got some compensation for my injuries and losses. It was also reassuring to know that a full medical investigation would be carried out as part of the claims process, so I would be able to prove my injuries from the accident without difficulty and have a much better understanding of my ongoing problems and prognosis. I was reassured by my solicitor that, while it would be a pain for them if I suddenly decided to drop the claim halfway through, I remained in control of the claim. I felt I could trust my solicitor to act in my best interests at all times.”
A Moray-based client during the early stages of their claim (May 2018)
“I was riding my bicycle in Elgin. I was waiting at a roundabout when a car hit me from behind. My main injury was to my wrist. My bike was also damaged and had to be repaired. I was afraid of the stress of making a claim. Grigor & Young calmed my fears from the time I first walked in the door to their reception. I would commend the reception staff for their pleasant and caring manner. I was kept well informed of the progress of my claim and everything was explained as we went along. It was good to be able to deal with a local, established firm and with a solicitor face-to-face on a one-to-one basis. Peter Brash was always straightforward with me about the pros and cons of my position as the case progressed. Thank you for your help in achieving a successful outcome to my claim and for proving that the whole thing does not have to be a stressful experience.”
JW, Moray (August 2017)
“I slipped on a wet dance floor at a Ross-shire hotel and suffered a serious broken ankle. I had to have a couple of operations on it and was off work for quite a while. I was quite reluctant to make a claim because I didn’t want people to think I was “doing it for the money”. I was concerned about the possibility of people thinking badly of me and not believing me. I didn’t know the process so was worried what was required. I found Peter Brash of Grigor & Young very helpful in explaining everything in words I could understand. He had a lovely calming nature and dealt with everything efficiently throughout the claim. I always knew he was easily contactable if I needed to discuss anything. Thank you for your time and patience in achieving a successful outcome for me. I received 100% of my compensation, without any deductions. It has been emotional and stressful, but worthwhile in the end.”
DD, Highland (March 2017)
I just want to take this opportunity to express my sincerest thanks to you for all your help and advice over these past years, to achieve some closure after my accident. I appreciate all you have done for me and I am glad I made the decision to give Moray Claims a call.”
“I was just pleased to see that there’s someone in Elgin who deals with personal injury claims.
This friend of mine told me to go to Aberdeen but I thought: “I’m not trailing away to Aberdeen.” By that time, the solicitor for the insurers had sent me a medical consent form to sign and I was thinking: “Ach, it doesn’t matter; I’ll not bother signing it and I’ll get in touch with them (i.e. the solicitor for the insurers) and tell them that I’m not bothering going any further with the claim.”
But then I thought: “I’ll have a look on line and see if there’s anyone local.” And when I saw it was Grigor & Young, I thought, “Oh, that’s fine.” So that’s when I got in touch with Peter via the Moray Claims website.”
Thank you very much for your kind response to my enquiry. Thanks to your help I have found a solicitor in my local area that can help me.
I am very grateful for your help.
“I broke a bone in my foot as a result of a fall on a footpath in the centre of Elgin. I tripped at a point where the path had not been properly finished and there was a lump of concrete sticking up. Peter Brash was excellent in guiding me through the process. Nothing ever seemed to be a bother. He kept me constantly updated via phone calls and face to face meetings. The Council accepted responsibility for the defect in the footpath and my claim for compensation was successful, without the need for a court action.
I feel I received an efficient and very professional service. I especially liked the fact that I was able to deal with a local solicitor. Keep up the good work.”
“I was driving on the A96 near Elgin and waiting to turn right into a side road. I was struck from behind by another car which was travelling in the same direction as me and failed to see my stationary vehicle. The speed of impact was probably about 50mph. My car was shunted forward for several metres. I suffered a whiplash injury. My main concern was what the costs would be in pursuing such a claim. After I spoke to you, I was reassured. I got a clear explanation of the process and the potential costs. It was very helpful to me being able to carry out nearly all matters by email after the initial face to face meeting. Other benefits of your service included: the fact that you are local to me; it was a personal service – I dealt with Peter Brash throughout the claim; and the fact I was constantly updated as the process evolved.”
DM, Elgin, Moray
“I had never claimed for personal injury before and had no idea how to go about it. I felt at ease talking to you about my claim.”
“I found that you dealt with everything very quickly and that you were very professional to deal with. “
“I was injured in a serious road traffic accident near Fort Augustus when I was a front seat passenger in a car which was in a head on collision. Initially, after the accident, when I was still recovering from my injuries, I didn’t want the additional stress of making a claim, so I left it for a while. I didn’t know much about the process and wanted to know what would happen if I proceeded. I called a few solicitors to enquire but didn’t feel I could trust any of them. I called Grigor & Young and spoke with Marie Morrison. I could tell she was a genuine, honest person. She was easy to talk to and, above all, trustworthy. I left it for a few months and then got back in touch with her when I felt ready to proceed. I was very worried about the future but I feel more secure now. Having resolved the claim gives me some closure and helps me move forward. The claim helped me face up to many issues that I would probably have swept under the carpet. From these points of view, it was well worth it. Marie was always available to talk to and very accommodating if I wasn’t available to speak during working hours. Marie had a genuine and caring attitude to all dealings with me. I always dealt directly with Marie and could tell she cared about her job and was very good at it. She worked really hard on my claim and got me an excellent settlement. I’d like to say: thanks for all your hard work. It was a mad rush at the end and I really appreciate it. You have done an excellent job and helped me so much.”
“I was injured as the result of an accident at work in Lerwick. I suffered crush injuries to my hand, which did not heal fully. My major concern was that I did not want to create any bad feeling at work in making a claim because I am still employed by the same company. As it turned out, my colleagues were very supportive and I am glad I went ahead with the claim. I found Peter Brash easy to communicate with and also helpful and understanding. I would be happy to recommend your personal injury services to others. You achieved an excellent end-result for me.”
“I was working for a construction company in the renovation of a farm building when I slipped on an icy roof, twisting and injuring my knee. I continued to have a lot of bother with my knee and needed several operations on it. I had to retrain for a less physical type of work. Before I consulted Grigor & Young, I was concerned that I might not have enough evidence about the way in which my injury had happened. In going ahead with a claim, I found that it was actually worth more than I had thought it would be worth. I felt that Grigor & Young provided a “complete” service and only minimal input was required from me. It was reliable and hassle-free. I got a good result. Thank you.”
JC, Ellon, Aberdeenshire
“I had an accident in a public play park when I was still at primary school. I injured my mouth and lost several front teeth. Final treatment for my injuries had to wait until I was old enough that my mouth was fully grown, which took several years. I appreciated Peter Brash’s caring attitude and his constant, easy-to-understand communication about the progress of the case gave me reassurance that our goal was always in sight. The claim gave me the opportunity to meet with expert dental professionals I would never otherwise have been able to consult. Thank you for the great service, all your hard work and for sticking with me to make my dream of having my teeth back possible. I would definitely recommend your personal injury claims services to others.”
LC, Thurso, Caithness
“I suffered a whiplash injury in a very frightening coach crash in Caithness. I had never made a personal injury claim before and I was unsure what the process might entail. I was unsure whether I might have to plead my case personally to a panel. Peter Brash was extremely patient with me throughout the process and at times I wasn’t sure I would proceed but Peter assured me about each step. All of the correspondence I received was jargon-free. I would recommend your services to others because you made it a very easy process. Thank you for making the process easy. Due to this, I can now move forward and hopefully put this incident behind me.”
“I suffered an injury to my foot at work. When I thought about making a claim originally, I was concerned that I would have to pay for the services of a solicitor and I was worried it would be too expensive. I wasn’t sure I would have a valid claim. I thought I might be wasting my time and yours. Turns out I couldn’t be more wrong. My whole claim was dealt with by telephone and by letters. You took the worry of making the claim out of my hands. In the end, I have had no costs to pay. I received all my compensation, without deduction. I feel I have got 110% satisfaction. Thank you all so very much – you have been outstanding.”
MH, Wick, Caithness
“Thank you, Peter, so much for all your help in getting me my teeth back the way they used to be. It’s all I have ever wanted.”
“I had to make a claim in very difficult personal circumstances, as my claim also involved a bereavement. I was very happy to have such a caring solicitor as Peter Brash in the circumstances. He explained everything step by step. I always felt able to contact him with any worries I had and he had no problem at all with answering all my questions. I would certainly recommend Grigor & Young to anyone considering making a personal injury claim. Thank you very much for all your hard work.”
JF, Fort William, Inverness-shire
“I broke my leg as the result of a slipping accident at work. Before going ahead with the personal injury claim, I was concerned about the stigma attached to making a claim, however legitimate it was. I was worried it might affect my employability in future. In the end, the claim was worth it, though it was not a pleasant experience. I felt I received a good personal service from Grigor & Young. Peter Brash was a good communicator and he didn’t give up or ever allow us to be intimidated. I would recommend your personal injury claims services to others.”
“I was knocked off my bicycle in Elgin and suffered multiple injuries. It’s been quite a learning curve for me in relation to making a claim. I thought I would have to pay to employ a solicitor and that it would probably be costly. Even though I thought my claim was justified, it would have been impossible to press ahead without your knowledgeable help. I only had to spend a relatively small amount of time gathering and supplying the required facts for you. Throughout the process, I felt I was in safe and competent hands. You were never daunted by the many problems as they occurred. You were friendly and easy to talk to – even about “side” issues. I am happy with the amount of compensation you obtained for me – it was beyond what I could have expected. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Peter Brash and Elaine Matthews for their unstinting hard work in making this claim for me.”
KT, Elgin, Moray
“I broke my wrist when I fell at poorly-lighted streetworks in Moray. I found you friendly and approachable, honest and reliable, and efficient in your manner of dealing with the claim. I feel it has been worthwhile making the claim and I am happy with the amount of compensation I received. If I were to need help with a similar claim in the future, I would ask you to act for me again. Thank you very much. I am grateful for all you have done.”
CH, Mosstodloch, Moray
“I was concerned that in consulting a solicitor I would have to pay your fees. In fact, I did not have to pay anything at all and the service was basically free. I found that you dealt with everything very quickly and that you were very professional to deal with. It suited me that I did not have to travel into Elgin to have meetings with you.”
YD, Dufftown, Moray
“I had never dealt with a law firm before and was concerned that my claim might be seen as frivolous. I was relieved when I was contact by you and reassured that there was a case to answer for. I felt that you listened to me and took all my correspondence into consideration. You were extremely efficient. I would with confidence encourage people to use your services. I was informed on a regular basis if there were any updates or paperwork to complete. I felt that I was being looked after. I was extremely at ease when dealing with you. I am forever in your debt for all your hard work.”

“I had never claimed for personal injury before and had no idea of what to do or how to go about it. You were very professional and I felt at ease talking to you about my injury. I am very happy with the final result. It was all done by letter or by phone – I never had to travel to your office and that suited me. You were very professional and pleasant to deal with and you went into all the details with me. My claim was just a small one, but you made me feel my claim was just as important as any other claims. Thank you very much – I would recommend your services to anyone.”
“It is good to know that there are still people out there to help and who care. What I liked about your service was your honesty, the constant updates and the ‘personal’ service. I would highly recommend Grigor & Young for their reliable service and the personal touch.”
William Chalmers, Alness, Ross-shire
“We were so traumatised by our accident that we were not quite sure how to proceed. After our first meeting with you, our feelings were that someone was going to help us. We liked the very sympathetic approach that was given to us and the professional and thorough detail that you went into. We felt we were consulted and kept advised throughout our claim. We found you very helpful to deal with and sympathetic. Everything was dealt with professionally, and our claim was settled satisfactorily and without us being distressed more than necessary, at what was a very upsetting time for us.”
Mr. and Mrs. Walker, Lossiemouth, Moray
“I was wary of making an insurance claim as I believed it was a very complicated process. Now that my claim is successfully completed, I don’t think it’s complicated any more. It was all pretty straightforward and I was given easy instructions if I needed to complete any paperwork etc. The three biggest benefits of your service to me were: great communication (fast and relevant) keeping me up to date; easy instructions (help if needed); and a great outcome. I would tell any other people considering using your services that you offer a great service that is easy to use and keeps you informed at all stages of the process. What I liked most about your service was the rapid communication and friendly staff.”
“Thank you for your help. I was unsure what to do about my claim and you made it all very easy and stress-free for me. You dealt with my claim very professionally and I was kept informed of what was happening at all stages. I would certainly encourage others to use your services for a personal injury claim.”
