How do you get over the financial misery that follows an accident at work?
If you’ve been injured at work, you may well be unfit for work.
If so, you’ll be anxious about the length of time you’ll be off work.
Some people are fortunate to have jobs with contracts which entitle them to full pay for a time, if they are off work due to injury. But not everyone is so lucky.
It’s hard to meet your financial obligations if you are on statutory sick pay, especially if you have a family to support.
Your employer may already be grumpy with you for being absent from work due to your accident. You may feel under pressure to return to work sooner than your GP might recommend, due to your employer’s attitude and/or financial factors.
For many injured workers, if your employer had even just paid you your basic wage while you were off, it would have made all the difference. The thought of claiming compensation would not even have occurred to you.
As it is, the amount of financial loss you have suffered is too great. If you’ve had to dip into life savings – or even use them all up – you may feel you have no choice other than to take matters further and make a claim for personal injury compensation.
We can help you claim compensation for your injuries and other losses as the result of an accident at work in Moray or elsewhere in Northern Scotland.
If you have been injured in an accident at work, it can be a worry for you whether making a claim for compensation might affect your relationship with your employer – to the point that it might put your job in jeopardy.
A common concern is that your employer might have to pay your compensation out of their own resources. Will they be able to afford it? Will the cost affect the viability of their business? Will you and your work colleagues lose your jobs?
All employers must have Employers’ Liability Insurance by law.
So, if you claim, any compensation payable will not come out of their pocket. Your right to claim compensation is as basic as your right to receive wages for the work you do.
Here at Moray Claims / Grigor & Young, we have the experience, expertise and the desire to help you.
We will do all we can to protect your employment, whilst obtaining compensation for the pain and suffering associated with your injuries and other losses – which will include any wage loss.
We aim to guide you through the whole process in an efficient and caring manner, taking as much of the pressure off you as possible in order that you can concentrate your efforts on your recovery.

Credentials and expertise in workplace compensation claims
No matter what the circumstances of your accident at work, we are confident we can help you since work compensation claims form a large proportion of our work. It is a constantly evolving and changing area of law and our two principal work claim solicitors – Peter and Marie – undertake specific training in accidents at work compensation law on a regular basis, through the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).
Peter Brash is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a Specialist in Personal Injury Law. Peter and Marie Morrison are both accredited by APIL as Senior Litigators. The Elgin branch of Grigor & Young (home of Moray Claims) holds corporate accreditation from APIL. Find out more about the APIL accreditation system in this article.
What clients have said about our service
Here’s what one client has given us as feedback at the end of her successful personal injury compensation claim, arising out of an accident at work.
I was injured when I was working in a fast food restaurant in Elgin. Together with a colleague, I had to manoeuvre an ice cream machine away from a wall. In the course of that, the machine tipped over and struck me on my shins. A fracture was suspected but nothing was found.
In thinking about making a claim at that time, my main concern was that I wouldn’t get anywhere – that it probably wasn’t worth claiming. What I found, when I consulted Grigor & Young, was that it was a fairly straightforward process.
Everything was started straight away and I was kept up to date with what was happening. The communication was great. Peter was friendly and approachable. He was easy to contact and responded straight away or, if not, as soon as possible. I knew I was always getting somewhere. I liked the fact that communication was in different ways – to include texts, phone, letter and email.
Grigor & Young’s Elgin office is easily accessible and just off the High Street. I would happily recommend Grigor & Young’s personal injury claims services to others. I am glad I chose to use Grigor & Young. It was all straightforward. I knew what was going on and had regular contact. All members of staff that I dealt with were pleasant and helpful. Thank you so much – it was a weight off my shoulders from the first meeting.
SM, Elgin
Here’s another client comment, again, relating to an accident which happened in Elgin.
I was working as a lorry driver for a national company with Elgin premises.
I was in the process of loading roll cages into the back of the lorry at the Elgin depot when the tailgate became jammed. In attempting to free the tailgate, I fell from a height of about 5 feet to the ground. I suffered a serious fracture to my right elbow which has permanently restricted my ability to drive heavy vehicles.
I was not sure about making a claim in the first place because, as an employee of the company concerned, I was worried for my job. In getting help from Grigor & Young, I was quickly advised of the possible pitfalls with the claim and the various possible outcomes. I was then guided through what the whole process was likely to involve and this gave me the confidence to pursue my claim. To begin with, liability was admitted subject to 15% contributory negligence but Grigor & Young argued that with the solicitors for the insurers and they eventually agreed to settle my claim on a 100% liability basis (i.e. in full).
I was kept up to date with every development personally by Mr Brash. I liked the service I got because everyone was approachable and friendly and it felt very personal. G&Y were able to settle my claim by negotiation with the other solicitors and I received 100% of my compensation, without deduction. I would recommend G&Y’s personal injury claim services to others as it was a first class service for me and the advice given was always honest and direct.
